Striking Brazilian butterfly wing trays made in Brazil for the tourist trade between the 1920's - 1930's. Made from a variety of Morpho butterfly wings, the wings are carefully laid out in intricate patterns on a hardwood tray and then pressed under glass. It was a popular indigenous art form at the time in all of South America starting in the late 1800's.The tray, made of Brazilian mahogany, has lovely art deco features, with curved sides for handles and careful placed contrasting inlaid wood marquetry. The iridescent colors of the wings also appear to change color from different angles. This unique piece would look great displayed or used as a catch-all and would also fit right in a 'cabinet of curiosities.'
